The most common questions from designers considering our Trade Program are mechanical, not strategic: How does the discount actually work? When do I pay? What's net 30 in practice? What happens if a piece arrives damaged on a client's job site? How does DDP shipping interact with my client's contractor?
This article answers those questions in full detail. It is the program documentation we wish existed when we launched the Trade Program in 2022, written for designers who want to understand exactly how the operational mechanics work before they apply.
How trade pricing works
Standard BASINCRAFT trade discount: 15 percent off retail pricing on standard inventory. Automatically applied at checkout when you're signed in with your approved trade account.
For example: a Carrara marble vessel sink with $880 retail pricing becomes $748 to trade accounts. The 15 percent saving is $132 per piece. On a multi-piece project, this scales linearly.
Volume tier: For projects exceeding $50,000 in a single quote or for accounts that have purchased over $80,000 in the trailing 12 months, the discount increases to 20–25 percent off retail. The exact rate is determined by trade account history and project scale. You don't need to apply for this tier separately; we apply it automatically when you qualify.
Custom pricing tier: For projects exceeding $250,000 in stone value, our partnership team works directly with you on project-specific pricing, custom production allocation, and dedicated logistics support. Contact your trade contact directly for this.
DDP shipping: what "delivered duty paid" actually means for trade orders
All BASINCRAFT shipments to the US ship DDP. Translation: the price you see at checkout (or in your trade quote) includes:
- Ocean or air freight from Denizli, Turkey to the US
- US customs entry, customs broker fees, customs duties (currently $0 for natural stone but could change)
- US Customs and Border Protection clearance
- Last-mile delivery to the destination address (residential or commercial)
- Full insurance throughout transit
What this means for trade accounts: you quote your client a fully landed price. No surprises. No "plus shipping and customs." No phantom fees that appear during delivery.
For commercial deliveries to job sites: the delivery contact (you, the GC, or the project manager) must be reachable for delivery scheduling. We coordinate delivery windows with the receiver before shipment leaves customs.
Net 30 terms: how it works
For approved trade accounts with project orders over $5,000, we offer net 30 payment terms. The mechanics:
- You request the order on trade pricing with net 30 designation
- We send a Pro Forma Invoice for the stone
- You approve the order — stone moves to production
- Stone ships from Denizli; we send a Commercial Invoice and shipping documentation
- You're billed at the date of delivery (US arrival, not Denizli departure)
- Payment due 30 days from the delivery invoice date
- Payment can be wire transfer, ACH, or check; credit cards accepted with 2 percent fee
For high-volume trade partners, we extend to net 45 or net 60 on a case-by-case basis. Discuss with your trade contact.
AIA progress billing for commercial projects
Hospitality and commercial projects often run on draw schedules with AIA G702/G703 payment application forms. We support these structures for trade partner commercial projects:
- 30 percent at order: Production starts upon receipt
- 50 percent at production midpoint: Photographic verification of completed pieces sent to you for approval
- 20 percent at delivery: Final payment upon US arrival
Alternative structures available based on project size and client requirements.
Damage and replacement protocols
What happens if a piece arrives damaged — either to your client's home or to a project site:
Damage within 48 hours of delivery
All BASINCRAFT shipments include comprehensive damage insurance. If damage is discovered within 48 hours of delivery, we ship a replacement at our cost. No restocking fees, no shipping fees, no "prorated value." We replace it and absorb the loss — because our shipping insurance covers it.
The process: file a damage claim within 48 hours with photographs. We confirm receipt within 1 business day. Replacement piece ships within 5–7 business days for standard inventory; longer for custom pieces.
Damage discovered after 48 hours but before install
Still covered, but please file ASAP. We work with you on resolution.
Damage during install
Not covered by BASINCRAFT directly. The installer's insurance should cover this. We can sell you a replacement piece at trade pricing.
Damage from product defect
If a piece shows manufacturing defect (hairline crack, structural flaw, finish failure) within 24 months of delivery, we replace at no cost regardless of when the defect manifests. Document with photographs and contact your trade contact.
How to apply your trade discount to client invoices
Important: your trade discount is your internal cost. You do not pass through trade pricing to your client. Standard industry practice:
- You order stone at trade pricing
- You mark up stone for your client (typically 1.4–2.2x trade cost)
- Your client pays you; you pay BASINCRAFT
This is industry standard and is how we expect trade pricing to be used. Showing trade pricing to clients devalues your sourcing relationship.
Sample policy for trade accounts
Trade accounts receive 10 free samples per quarter (vs. $25/up to 5 samples for retail customers). Samples ship within 3–5 business days of request. To order trade samples, contact your trade contact with your selections.
For project-specific samples (large-format samples for client review, custom finish samples), there may be a nominal fee depending on size and complexity. Discuss with your trade contact.
Trade contact relationship: what you can expect
Once your trade application is approved (typically 2–3 business days for individual designers; 4–7 for firms), you're assigned a trade contact by name. The trade contact is your single point of contact for:
- Quote requests (24-hour turnaround)
- Stone selection and sample coordination
- Order placement and production status
- Delivery coordination
- Damage claims and resolution
- Volume tier requests
- Special inquiries
Your trade contact sends a weekly availability email (Mondays) with:
- New inventory not yet on the public site
- Pieces matching projects you have in pipeline
- Quarry updates and lead-time information
- Trend reports and editorial commentary relevant to your trade
Trade-specific quote turnaround
Standard quote turnaround for trade accounts: 24 hours during business days (Monday–Friday). For multi-piece projects or custom work, we may need 48–72 hours; we let you know in your initial reply.
For urgent quotes (you need pricing before a client meeting): just say so. We expedite within 4–6 hours during business days.
How to scale up: from individual designer to volume tier
To grow from standard 15 percent trade pricing to volume tier (20–25 percent):
- Complete projects through us — every order builds your account history
- Refer other designers who become trade partners — referrals factor into volume tier qualification
- Use the dedicated trade contact relationship; consistent communication signals serious partnership
- Recommend BASINCRAFT in editorial coverage or panel discussions (we track this)
Most trade partners reach volume tier within 18–24 months of approval. Some reach it within 12.
Frequently asked questions
How long does trade application take?
2–3 business days for individual designers; 4–7 for firms (firm structure verification adds time).
Do I need a current project to apply?
No. Many designers apply before they have a current project so they're ready when one starts.
What documentation do I need for trade application?
Business verification (business license or LLC documentation), portfolio of past work (Instagram or website is fine), and resale certificate if you want tax-exempt purchasing.
Can architects and project managers apply?
Yes. Architects, project managers, builders, and hospitality buyers are all eligible for trade accounts.
What if my client wants to buy directly from BASINCRAFT (bypassing me)?
If a client is working with you as their designer and your contract specifies you handle procurement, they should not buy directly. Speak with your trade contact if this becomes a recurring issue — we generally honor existing designer relationships when contacted by clients who appear to be circumventing them.
How do I apply?
Submit the trade application form on our Trade Program page. Approval is typically within 2–3 business days for individual designers.
