Every sheet of Black Marble Blasted Mosaic 1x2 starts as a block of marble from our own quarry, is cut to size, then hand-set on mesh backing. Chip format is 1x2. Chips sit on a straight grid, quiet enough to run the full height of a wall without fighting anything else in the room.

Surface and color. The face of each chip is opened mechanically, with no acid and no chemical wash, so it keeps the texture the stone had in the ground. Shades sit in the gray and black range. Stone is not manufactured to a color standard, so allow for movement between sheets. Within our marble range, Black is the seam that gives this particular color. Sheets are thinned in production, so they are light enough to go on a wall without a structural allowance.

The stone. Nothing here is filled, dyed or resin-backed — the sheet is stone and mesh, and what you see is the stone itself. Marble is metamorphic and dense, which is what lets it take a crisp edge on a chip this small.

Where it works. It reads well on a large uninterrupted wall, and equally well in a small powder room where the pattern is close to the eye. For floor use, check the finish against the traffic the room actually takes.

Setting it. Use a non-staining white adhesive and seal the sheet before grouting — natural stone will take up pigment from a dark grout if it goes on raw. Use a non-staining white adhesive and seal the sheet before grouting — natural stone will take up pigment from a dark grout if it goes on raw.

What the photographs show. We photograph every mosaic twice: once flat, square to the camera, so nothing about the pattern is hidden, and once in a finished room so you can see it under real light with furniture in front of it.

Ordering. Sheets are $9.99 each and ship at no charge inside the United States. Production and dispatch times are shown on this page; the full schedule is in our Shipping Policy.
